The headphones have a built-in rechargeable battery. To charge, use the included USB-C cable to connect the headphones to a 5V charger or a power source such as a computer. The indicator light glows red while the battery is charging and turns off once fully charged.

When the battery is low, the indicator light flashes red and you will hear the voice prompt “battery charge is low.” On compatible iOS and Android devices, your device also displays the battery status.

Note: You can listen and charge at the same time over USB-C; however, the headphones cannot be turned on while connected to a 5V charger.

Press and hold the power button for two seconds until you hear the voice prompt “power on” and the indicator light begins to flash. The vacuum tube glows when the headphones are powered on.

Note: The headphones power off automatically if no input is received for ten minutes (except when in noise control, wired USB-C, or AUX modes).

Note: The headphones power on automatically when connected to a playback device via USB-C, and power off automatically when the cable is disconnected. See Wired Listening for more.

Press and hold the power button for two seconds until you hear the voice prompt “power off.” The indicator light and vacuum tube turn off.

The headphones are controlled with the control disk on the right (logo) side earcup and three buttons: the multifunction button, the noise control button, and the power button.

• Click up or down — volume up or down.
• Click front or back — next or previous track.

• Press once — pause or resume playback.
• Press three times — activate the voice assistant on your connected phone or tablet.
• Press and hold for three seconds — enter Bluetooth pairing mode. See Wireless Listening.
• Press and hold with the noise control button for ten seconds — factory reset (clear paired devices) and enter pairing mode.

When the headphones are connected to a phone via Bluetooth or USB-C cable, the multifunction button also handles calls:

• Press once — answer an incoming call, or end the current call.
• Press and hold for three seconds during an incoming call — decline the call.

With the headphones powered on, press the noise control button to switch noise control modes. A voice prompt announces the current mode.

• Press once — transparency mode.
• Press twice — noise cancellation on.
• Press three times — noise cancellation off.

Press and hold for two seconds — power on or power off. See Getting Started.

1. Enable Bluetooth on your mobile device, tablet, PC, or TV.
2. Power on the headphones.
3. Press and hold the multifunction button for three seconds. The indicator light flashes and you will hear the voice prompt “pairing.”
4. Select “écoute” in your device’s Bluetooth menu. The indicator light flashes while pairing and turns off when the connection is established. Once connected, you will hear the voice prompt “écoute paired.”

If the connection fails, you will hear the voice prompt “Bluetooth disconnected.” Return to step 3 to pair again.

Note: The headphones attempt to pair for five minutes, and power off after ten minutes without a connection.

When powered on, the headphones automatically reconnect to the last paired device. The voice prompt “écoute paired” plays once the connection is re-established.

Simultaneously press and hold the multifunction and noise control buttons for ten seconds. The indicator light flashes three times, indicating the paired device records have been cleared, and the voice prompt “pairing” confirms the headphones have entered pairing mode.

The headphones can maintain Bluetooth connections with two devices at the same time.

1. Simultaneously press and hold the multifunction and noise control buttons for ten seconds to clear the paired device records. The voice prompt “pairing” confirms the headphones have entered pairing mode.
2. Pair the first device.
3. Turn off Bluetooth on the first device.
4. Press and hold the multifunction button for three seconds to enter pairing mode, then connect the second device.
5. Turn Bluetooth back on using the first device and the headphones will automatically reconnect.

You are now connected to both devices. Audio plays from whichever device you press play on, and calls can be answered from either device.

When the headphones are connected to an audio source via cable, Bluetooth disconnects. When the AUX cable is unplugged, the headphones automatically reconnect to the previously paired Bluetooth device.

Powered: When connected to an audio source via a 3.5mm audio cable while the headphones are powered on, the volume control, noise control modes, and the built-in vacuum tube preamp and amplifier remain active.

Passive: When the headphones are connected via AUX cable while powered off, the audio signal passes directly to the speakers and volume is controlled by the audio source. (All headphone controls, noise control modes, and amplification are inactive.)

The headphones power on automatically when connected to a computer or digital audio source via the USB-C port, and power off automatically when the cable is disconnected. Volume control, noise control modes, and the built-in vacuum tube preamp and amplifier are active.

Note: If sound is not automatically available after connecting the USB-C cable, select “écoute audio” in the sound output settings of your computer or digital audio source.

Transparency mode lets ambient sound in while you wear the headphones, so you stay aware of your environment.

ANC mode cancels ambient sounds.

The free écoute Tuning App lets you shape the sound of your headphones with full frequency response curve control, powered by the built-in DSP.

The écoute Tuning App is available for free on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android).

1. Connect your écoute headphones to your mobile device via Bluetooth.
2. Launch the écoute Tuning App.
3. Select your headphones and navigate to “Frequency Response Curves.”

Swipe left and right to navigate in Graph View; scroll up and down to navigate in List View.

Tap the bottom-left icon to toggle between Graph View and List View.

In List View, browse all existing presets and delete custom ones (swipe right to delete).

In Graph View, make live adjustments and create up to five custom curves. Graph View is also where you set the default curve for your headphones.

Save your favorite voicing as the default preset to ensure your tuning is retained after power-off.

The center line (0 dB) is the midpoint, not the baseline. You have up to ±12 dB of gain or cut per frequency band.

Increase the Master Volume Limit to allow extra headroom for more dramatic tuning.

Firmware updates are performed through the écoute Tuning App. When an update is available, an “Update Firmware” button appears in the app’s main navigation. Press it and the update begins immediately. The headphones power off once the firmware update is complete — power them back on to resume listening.

Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the surface of the headphones. Do not use excessive moisture or chemical cleaners. Ensure the headphones are completely dry before powering on.

The earpads are replaceable. Replacement earpads are available at ecouteaudio.com.

Removing an earpad: Press the earpad gently toward the earcup, grip it, and rotate it a quarter turn counterclockwise to release it.

Reattaching an earpad: Align the notch on the earpad with the tab on the earcup. Press the earpad against the earcup, grip it, and rotate it a quarter turn clockwise until it locks into place.

• Flashing after power on — headphones are on and awaiting connection.
• Flashing — pairing in progress; turns off when the connection is established.
• Three blue flashes — paired device records cleared (factory reset).
• Flashing red — battery charge is low.
• Glowing red — charging; turns off once fully charged.

The battery may be depleted. Charge with the included USB-C cable (the indicator light glows red while charging). Note that the headphones cannot be turned on while connected to a 5V charger — unplug from the charger first.

Confirm the headphones are in pairing mode: press and hold the multifunction button for three seconds until the indicator light flashes rapidly and you hear the voice prompt “pairing.” The headphones attempt to pair for five minutes and power off after ten minutes without a connection — power them back on and try again.

The connection failed. Re-enter pairing mode (press and hold the multifunction button for three seconds) and pair again.

The headphones reconnect automatically to the last paired device; make sure Bluetooth is on on that device. If reconnection still fails, perform a factory reset (press and hold the multifunction and noise control buttons for ten seconds) and pair again.

Select “écoute audio” in the sound output settings of your computer or audio source.

The headphones are in passive mode when powered off. Power them on to restore volume control, noise control modes, and the vacuum tube preamp and amplifier.

Audio follows whichever device you press play on. Pause one device and press play on the other.

The headphones power off automatically after ten minutes without input (except in noise control, wired USB-C, or AUX modes). Power them back on.

In the Tuning App’s Graph View, save your curve as the default preset; the default is retained through power-off.

• Avoid listening at excessively high volumes. We recommend listening at or below 60% of maximum volume during regular use.
• Prevent the headphones from being subjected to strong impacts to avoid damaging the internal components.
• Do not expose the headphones to moist environments.
• Do not leave the headphones in direct sunlight or expose them to high temperatures.
• Do not disassemble the headphones or attempt to replace the battery. Doing so will void the warranty. Contact écoute audio or an authorized service agent for repairs or to replace the battery.
• Do not charge using a charger or power source that is greater than 5V.
